Poet-in-residence
“Daughter”
Jasmine Mans was an invited poet to New Arts Justice for their inaugural 2023-24 Poet-in-Residence program.
The culmination of her time at Rutgers-Newark and the residency within Express Newark activated Shine Studios and the production resources available in the community space.
Credited below are staff and community members who supported digital poetry production and an exploration into the boundaries of poetry crossing into digital spaces, curated evenings, and workshops in the community.

Digital Poetry
During the residency I worked with Nneka Julia to produce digital poetry that had been an interest of Jasmine as a way to build out a portfolio during the residency and to create a sustainable practice of blending visual curation and poetry in a sharable and community building format.
This was a success as we’ve reached over 1 million subscribers and new audience members in engagement with the poetry content

Workshops and Community Outreach
Reaching Jasmine’s Newark family, friends, and fans was equally spread to NYC through the Free Black Women’s Library
Projects + People
-
Envisioned by Dr. Salamishah Tillet as the director of the Public Art Studio, the residency was inspired by the Guggenheim’s introduction of poetry and performance into their galleries as a way to activate the community and elevate the visitor experience.
-
Bridging performance and audience, we are reaching into the community and the internet to reach long-time fans with new work inspired by the residency and allowing visual curation to take charge in the storytelling of Jasmine’s poetry- an evolution of her craft and narration
-
The Free Black Women’s Library hosted a poetry workshop Jasmine designed to focus on voice, senses, and experience adding color to the mother daughter dynamic and reshaping lived experiences to work as therapy and a reflection of hope and grievance
